Yaisha's Journey

I started my journey to nattral hair finally, without ceasing, two months ago.. It has been a process too. More mental than physical, but close in different ways..

I have always even as a child not been completely satisfied with the way society viewed us as blacks, or even the way that I viewed myself. I am from Detroit Michigan, which was and still is to me a Blak Mecca for a lot of things.

But even there growing up, everyone was trying to fit into what they saw on the streets, television or on the movie screen. Me I have always thought outside of the box and wanted to stay different and unique.

But I , like many of us was still scared of what others such as our family and friends would think of us. So I put off growing my hair nattrally until I got much older. Now a lot has happened to me since being a little kid, some good and some bad. But all lessons learned.. I currently live in Texas with my husband and our two beautiful blak princesses, who I am trying to teach things to, about our culture, the skin their in and how they need to love themselves first and be proud of who they are and where they come from... Something that I had to learn myself... I have not looked back since I cut the perm out my hair.

My friends and family seem to be supportive as well, even if they are not, they know to keep any negativity to themselves. I feel free now and I know that I finally fit in, not into this world, but a world all my own.. Jah Bless

Yaisha
