Morris Roots
Technique
The technique is super natural; we do every thing that is natural. We use our own products which are soft conditioning creams and has a natural base, our shampoos and conditioners contain elderflower, rosemary, castor oil fragranced with Neroli and orange.
Three types of twisting
1. Single twist, which is with the comb
2. Double, two strands twist
3. Hand twist/palm roll
You can start your locks with either technique; most people prefer the single comb twist, because of its cylindrical shape. For those who locs, after first twist, they should come back between 4 and 6 weeks depending on the hair texture When clients come back for the 2nd visit, we do not wash their hair , we have a conditioning tonic we use to clean the scalp, which is also part of the Morris Roots brand We retwist then oil , so this routine is redone every 4 -6 weeks.
Natural Buzz..
Most people are going natural these days, having various natural style options, twist: single/double, cornrow, china bumps, locs – being the most popular! With creativity coming from loc styles, such as volcano, fish tail, loc and roll or a simple basket weave, they all fit into our lifestyle whether casual or professional
We also use natural vegetable dyes to colour the hair, because it is not as harsh as the dyes that contain peroxide and ammonia. Although these chemicals damages the hair, they can still be used by personal choice but we recommend the use of a deep conditioner,
The atmosphere at Morris roots is very warm, we have 11 member staff made up of locktitians, receptionists and maintainers We have been featured on radios stations ( Choice FM, BBC 1 Xtra, and Birmingham radio), we have also done a series of various magazines Pride, W2W- The Voice , Black Hair and Mano Vision. We’ve also had a t –shirt section in Poison band at Notting hill carnival 2003, where we were featured on ACTV – Sky
We have an interest in Europeans with locs, using a completely different technique called interlocing and back combing. Interlocing is done with a tool, which is used to thread the hair, and back combing is used to tease the hair so it can achieve its locing pattern.
We are locktitians with a passion in maintaining our hair in its natural state. Locs is not only a hairstyle but is part of our cultural make up, because we have lost our way through slavery, it is important for all our people to support this Cultural Revolution
