Hairdresser Blues
I thought I should write an article based on the various emails and discussions we have had on Hairdressers. Since growing my hair I have stuck to one hairdresser, we have a good relationship and she is someone that I trust with my hair, and this relationship has been built up over 3 years.
I have received emails about hairdresser’s overcharging, customers not getting what they ask for and simply not be satisfied with the service. Now my question is what makes a good hairdresser? Of course service and attitude are at the top of the pillar which conducts the overall approach. But I don’t have the specific answer on ‘A good hairdresser’ per se, it is a searching game to find the right one.
Well I have a small story to tell regarding an experience I had with a hairdresser when I didn’t have patience to wait for an appointment with my regular. This was my second trip to this particular salon and I was happy with them from my first visit, it wasn’t in the best surroundings but I got what I wanted. However on this occasion I had already washed my hair and just required a 2 strand twist. I didn’t have to wait long and when I was finished I proceeded to pay the lady and she said “Oh you need another fiver on that?” OK I thought the price was £25? “Well yea, but your hair length was more than we thought” OK so where is the disclaimer on the price board about this? “We don’t need to put that up, we tell you the price” So what is the point in having a price board if you don’t use it and make up the prices as you go along? This banter between me and the manager carried on, by which I was growing tired of her ignorance and hopped to the cash point to pay the extra fiver. Now this really upset me, because we always want to support of community but its as if they have lost there ethics, standards if they even had any on how to conduct business and give a good service and attitude.
Now to top this off my hair texture had changed, we all listen to ‘old’ talk about not allowing too many hands in your hair, and sticking to one person. After washing my hair after my ordeal the texture was a lot coarser than usual and I discussed with my stylist. Now I didn’t want to fill my head with myth but somewhere inside I was convinced it was because of my trip to that salon.
At some point we all may need to visit a hairdresser/stylist to get the special hair do or just to be pampered, but from my own experience it is good to take recommendations. This should hopefully rule out uncomfortable situations like my experience. When you find your hairdresser or stylist build a relationship with them so you obtain the best results for your hair. Lets try and move away from the hairdresser blues and speak up when you are not happy. We should continue to support our salons and stylist that work from home, and if you have been served well spread the news!
